Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart
Pre1980’s homes had no building code requirement for insulation so your home is probably uninsulated. Although some of these homes may have been insulated later, the insulation may have settled and no longer performing. So to insulate or improve your current insulation the Government has a subsidised insulation scheme to help you out.
Government Funding
Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart is an insulation and clean heating programme that will give you the opportunity to make your home warmer, drier and more energy efficient. The aim is to retrofit more than 188,500 homes over four years we are in year three.
Insulation provides increased comfort and reducers your winter heating bill. Also provides increased heath benefits, especially for those with respiratory illness or other conditions from living in cold damp houses

Are You Eligible?
Up to $1,800 of government funding is available if you are a home owner or landlord and your property was built before the year 2000. If so you qualify for a one-off grant of 33% off the cost of ceiling and underfloor insulation up to a maximum of $1,300 (inc gst). Once you have insulated to the required levels you are then eligible for a further $500 clean heating subsidy.

In addition to insulation you are eligible for a hot water cylinder wrap, cylinder pipe lagging, front and back door draught stopping.Good measures that will help reduce your energy bill.

If you have flat roofs or skillion ceilings which have no access to insulate then we have a insulation system for these as well.
Once you have insulated the next biggest heat loss is your walls, Negawatt have developed a unique way of insulating walls that offer three levels of insulation technology. You can choose standard low density insulation, medium density or high density, each grade has an additional added benefit, so please ask about this at assessment time.
